Brew Monday 2022 with Samaritans

What is Blue/Brew Monday I here you ask? January 17th lands on the calendar near the middle of the month where the weather is depressing and the wait til payday is extra long for some.

It’s also when cracks in many New Year Resolutions start to appear. Or people just decide to give up altogether. It’s the perfect day to pull yourself up and look forward to the rest of the year with cheer and positivity, instead of gloom.

Samaritans.org refuse to partake in this mythical Monday and are instead encouraging people to get together and chat over a brew!

‘Brew Monday’ was born from the idea that everyone has good and bad days throughout the month and reaching out and connecting with people (loved ones and strangers) can be beneficial for everyone.

So get your favourite mug ready and stock up on those teabags. This is not a one day a year thing, the idea is to encourage regular catch-ups with the people you care about. And even the people you may not know – you can learn a lot about someone new over a strong brew and a biscuit or two.

How to help

Whether you want to get together with your flatmates to raise money for Samaritans or simply offer to chat with someone by checking in with a friendly ‘Hello, how are you?’, the main goal is to change this Blue Monday stigma for the better.

Being a good listener is important, especially for occasions like Brew Monday, where lending your ear can have positive benefits for others. You can read our blog about just that here – which was written in response to another Samaritans campaign ‘Talk to us’ last summer.

It’s a simple campaign! For every percent we reduce our overall utilities (electric, water and gas) consumption by we donate to one of our nominated charities.
