University

St Mary’s University in Twickenham was founded in 1850, it is generally acknowledged to be the oldest Roman Catholic university in the United Kingdom. Formerly called St Mary’s University College, it was granted full university status in 2014.

Around a third of the offering at St Mary’s is dedicated to teacher education and there is a growing number of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in subjects such as Sport, Drama, Theology and Business.

St Mary’s University, Twickenham is made up of two Academic Faculties and one Institute: Faculty of Education, Humanities & Social Sciences, Faculty of Sport, Health and Applied Science and the Institute of Theology.

In 2010 Pope Benedict XVI, visited St Mary’s University, as part of the first Papal Visit to the UK since 1982. He led three events during the second day of his four-day state visit.
