Durham University was founded in 1832 and was the first recognised university to open in England for more than 600 years, after Oxford and Cambridge, making it the third-oldest university in England. Today Durham University is consistently ranked as a world top 100 university.

Home to almost 20,000 students, across 17 colleges offering over 330 undergraduate and postgraduate courses. In 2023, the university was ranked 6th in the Times and Sunday Times Good University guide. With 83% of research conducted at Durham University judged to be internationally excellent or world leading.

The university boosts the UK economy by £1.1 billion a year and supports nearly 14,000 jobs.
