Recycle Week Assorted Plastic Bottles

Driving sustainability at Host

Guest blog – Lisa, Customer Service Advisor at Host

This week (23rd – 29th September 2019) is Recycle Week. Now in its 17th year, Recycle Week is a celebration of recycling. The aim of the week is to encourage people to recycle, by demonstrating the benefits of recycling items at home.

At Host, we’re keen to do our bit to become more environmentally friendly. We have recycling facilities at our properties and encourage students and staff to recycle and conserve energy where possible. Later this year, we’ll also be launching the 2019/20 #HostEnvironmentalPledge campaign so keep an eye out for more information soon.

We have a dedicated team who are passionate about reducing our environmental impact, including Lisa from Central Quay, Sheffield.

Lisa’s Story:

“Hi, my name’s Lisa. I’ve worked at Central Quay in Sheffield as a Customer Service Advisor for two years. In addition to my job as Customer Service Advisor, I’m also part of the Host Sustainability committee. I want to help support the challenges we face in being more environmentally friendly and looking at how we can reduce our environmental impact within Central Quay itself.

Sustainability and the environment have been close to my heart for a long time. I’ve been working with my husband to reduce the amount of waste that we produce as a family. Since the start of 2019 we’ve committed to living Zero Waste, adding no new plastic waste to landfill.

Over the coming year, I’ll be writing posts about our experiences in reducing our waste. In addition, I’ll share with you, information and tips on how you can apply simple changes to reduce your waste too. As the saying goes “We don’t need a handful of people doing ‘zero waste’ perfectly, we need millions of people doing it imperfectly”.

We’re making changes where we can at Central Quay too – which I’ll write about as we work to improve sustainable practices across the building. So, watch this space and get involved!

If you have ideas, we’ll share them and work together to reduce our impact and limit the amount of damage we’re doing to our amazing planet.”

Getting serious about the environment we live in.

To become more ‘environmentally friendly’, Host is launching the #HostEnvironmentalPledge campaign to encourage responsible behaviour and drive sustainability across our sites throughout the UK and Ireland.

It’s a simple campaign! For every percent we reduce our overall utilities (electric, water and gas) consumption by we donate to one of our nominated charities.
