Dance workouts you can do #AtHomeWithHost

Are you missing a good old boogie down your local club with your friends? Yep we get that. Weekends just aren’t the same without a little bop and a jive, are they? But don’t forget, dancing isn’t just reserved for a night out; it’s a great form of exercise too!

Why is dancing good for you?

Dancing is a whole-body workout that is sure to get your heart pumping. It combines both cardio exercises and strength, balance and flexibility exercises.

The cardio aspect of dance can be achieved through movements such as jumping, swaying and twirling. Whilst the other elements can be achieved through holding positions, lifting your own body and balancing for example.

Don’t think you can dance? Wrong. One of the greatest things about dancing is most people can participate. Whether it’s a full-on dance routine, a little jig on the spot, or a simple sway of the hips or arms – we can all dance to the beat in some way or another.

So, to get you started, below are a few different forms of dance to try; everything from hip-hop dance to belly dancing.

1. Cardio Latin Dance Workout

2. Hip-Hop Fit Workout

3. La Bomba Dance

Raise the roof (and your energy levels) with this La Bomba dance workout.

It features a combination of dance moves set to Latin American dance music, hip hop, Afrobeats and R&B. Hopefully you’ll be having so much fun you won’t even notice how hard you’re working.

4. Belly Dancing for Beginners

Are you ready to get those hips shaking? Belly dancing is a fun way to get fit, so give it a whirl with this belly dancing exercise video for beginners.

And if the above dance workouts weren’t enough, you could even organise a virtual dance-off with your mates. Either way, we’d love to see what dance moves and workouts you’re doing this weekend and throughout lockdown so please share with us on our social media (@hoststudentsuk).

We’ll be posting a new weekend workout on our news page every Friday and sharing updates over the weekend via our social media; so stay tuned!
