LOVE LIVING WITH HOST? Rebook for September 2025
Today, the third Monday of January has become better known as ‘Blue Monday’. The fact that Christmas is over, the nights are dark, the temperature’s cold and motivation is generally low, all make for a very miserable day.
So, with that in mind, we were going to write some top tips on how you could avoid feeling blue. But we thought we’d make it a bit more fun and get you thinking about how you can avoid all things blue so you can completely forget the fact it’s Blue Monday. Take a look at some of our ideas below.
Keep your usual pair of blue jeans or jumper hidden in your drawers today. Instead, dig deep in your wardrobe and wear something light and colourful to really brighten up your day.
If you’re spending the day doing uni work, avoid writing or highlighting anything in blue pen. Instead, use colourful pens and markers to liven up your notes and your day.
With it being dark and cold, today is the perfect day for settling down and watching a movie; but be sure to pick your film wisely. Avoid any films that feature the word ‘blue’ in their title such as Deep Blue Sea, The Blues Brothers or Blue Streak. View our PDF below for ideas of other films to watch instead.
You might think we’re simply referring to the boyband from the noughties, but we’re not. If you’re playing any music today, check your playlists and take off any songs with the colour ‘blue’ in their title. After all, we know how likely it is that Blue (Da Ba Dee) by Eiffel 65 will be on your playlist. View our PDF below for ideas of other songs to listen to instead.
Well this one is obvious, avoid blueberries. But if you love blueberries, we don’t want to discourage you from eating your five a day. So perhaps you could instead treat yourself and indulge in other colour-related food. We’re thinking red-velvet cake, brownies or blondies. View our PDF below for even more ideas.
