Bring Autumn to your Student Digs

Autumn has arrived, bringing with it earlier sunsets, cooler temperatures and a blanket of crunchy, russet-red leaves. With the seasons changing beyond the window, it is the best time to bring autumn to your student digs.

Bake muffins.

Nothing beats that smell of freshly baked treats, especially on a rainy weekend. We have found some tasty recipes to kick start your autumn baking obsession. This is the perfect excuse to get friends and flatmates involved too!

Here are a few recipes to get you inspired…

Reed diffusers.

Reed diffusers transform and freshen up any space. You get a safe and long-lasting scent which lasts for weeks.

Hack for reed diffusers last for longer – flip reeds every 2 weeks – reduce the number of reeds.

Ran out of oil and want a quick fix? Add fabric conditioner.

Coffee.

Warm up with the likes of pumpkin spice and maple cinnamon lattes. Autumn is preferred by many when it comes to seasonal drink varieties.

Did you know that Student Beans are offering a free coffee when you join Starbucks rewards. They also offer free drinks and birthday cake at Costa when you join their Costa Club.

Walk in autumn woods/leaves.

Fallen auburn leaves, fresh air, crisp blue skies. Wander to your local parks and woods to make the most of this wonderful time of the year. Find your local English forest/woods using this website www.forestryengland.uk/search-forests

Make an autumn playlist.

Have a music streaming app? Why not create an essential autumn playlist. One that gives you the feels. Put on when you’re cleaning, cooking or just relaxing.

Cosy up with a good book.

Darker evenings means being outside less, and inside more. Sometimes tv can get repetitive. Why not spend your evenings getting stuck in a novel. Unlike uni reading and revising. Something different and new that you can escape to.

Here is a list of books out this autumn to get stuck in to:

  • The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O’Farrell
  • Fairy Tale by Stephen King
  • Best of Friends by Kamila Shamsie
  • The Skeleton Key by Erin Kelly
  • Girl Friends by Holly Bourne
  • Duplicity by Donna Freed

Layer up.

Make the most of your student discount and buy yourself some new knitted layers.

Here are some discounts from UNiDAYS New Look, ASOS, Urban Outfitters, Calvin Klein, BoohooMAN and The North Face.

Treat yourself to a new blanket to cosy up in.

Throw blankets are not only great for wrapping around your body when you feel the cold, but also change the appearance of a room. A light cotton blanket is ideal for the summer months, while a wool throw may be better for autumn and winter.

Pumpkin carving competition.

Decorate your rooms with Halloween decorations. A wreathe on your door? A Halloween door mat or pumpkin tinsel around your bed.

Why not buy a pumpkin, (scoop out the insides and set aside to make a soup or pumpkin pie) and attempt to carve your best scary face. Buy a couple of LED tealights to go inside. Done.
