Get enough sleep.

The most important of tips. Sleep. Ensure you get enough sleep the night before your exam. Lack of sleep can affect your concentration and cognitive abilities.

Eat a balanced meal.

Fuel your body and brain with a nutritious breakfast or lunch on the day of the exam. Avoid overly heavy or sugary foods as these could cause energy crashes later on in the day.

Stay hydrated.

Bring a refillable bottle of water with you to stay hydrated through your exam. Dehydration can negatively impact your cognitive function and focus.

Wear something comfortable to your exam.

Dress in a ‘fit that you know you’ll be comfortable in whilst you sit your exam. Something loose, warm and appropriate.

Remember to relax and laugh beforehand.

If you are someone who really struggles with nerves before a big exam, try taking you mind off of the situation. Put on your favourite comedy or podcast whilst you are getting ready to leave. This will calm your nerves, get you laughing and relaxed.

Review key material before your exam.

Quickly review key concepts or notes, but avoid trying to learn new information at the last minute. Focus on reinforcing what you already know. Flash cards are great for last minute preparedness.

Arrive early to your exam.

Aim to arrive at the exam location with plenty of time to spare. Rushing can increase stress levels and affect your performance. If you are travelling by public transport it is also a good idea to allow time to delays that you have no control over. The earlier you arrive, you more time you have to review key material.

When you arrive, don’t panic, focus.

Take deep breaths and try to stay calm. Remember that feeling anxious is normal, but it’s essential to manage your stress levels to think clearly.

We hope our exam tips for on the day have helped you focus on what is important. Remember, exams can be stressful, but preparation and a positive attitude can go a long way in helping you succeed. You’ve got this! Good luck.
