It’s been a few months since you moved into your new student home and started university in Leeds. You’ve probably already become familiar with some of the city’s student hot spots; such as the university campuses and student’s unions, popular bars and clubs and the main shopping outlets. Sport:

Elland Road Football Stadium

Home to Leeds United Football Club – or the Mighty Whites as they’re commonly known, Elland Road stadium was founded in 1919 and is the 12^th largest football stadium in England. With a capacity of 37,890, if you’re a football fan, experiencing match day at the stadium is a must, even if it’s just to soak up the incredible atmosphere.

Headingley Carnegie Stadium

Football isn’t the only big sport in the city. Head over to Headingley Carnegie Stadium and you’ll find not one, but two separate sports grounds; Headingley Cricket Ground and Headingley Rugby Stadium. So, why not take a break from your studies and catch the Leeds Rhinos or Yorkshire County Cricket Club in action?

Art & Museums:

Leeds Art Gallery

After an extensive refurbishment of the original Victorian roof, Leeds Art Gallery is once again open for the public to admire its large collection of 20^th Century art, as well as the stunning glass ceiling that has been transformed into a new gallery. And the best part? You don’t have to pay to visit, entry is free.

Leeds City Museum

Originally established in 1819 and reopened in 2008, take a trip back in time at Leeds City Museum. The museum is home to a variety of collections, interactive displays, historical artefacts and archaeological items and community displays, across six galleries – all of which are free to visit.

Royal Armouries Museum

The Royal Armouries Museum is home to the national collection of arms and armour from across the world and throughout time. From ancient and medieval warfare, to the 19^th and 20^th century, see displays of war arms and armour. You’ll also find displays dedicated to hunting, oriental, tournaments and self-defence.

Music & Drama:

Leeds Grand Theatre

Dating back to 1878, Leeds Grand Theatre is a listed building featuring Romanesque and Scottish baronial styles to the exterior, and gothic motifs and clustered columns to the interior. It’s a classically proportioned theatre hosting numerous productions with everything from opera to stand-up comedy.

Leeds First Direct Arena

From The Stereophonics and Little Mix, to Michael McIntyre and Ricky Gervais, to WWE Live and Strictly Come Dancing Tour, you’ll find some of the world’s biggest stars and tours on stage at the First Direct Arena. With all sorts of events and performances, there’s something for everyone.
