Last month, almost 500 students gathered at Newbury Racecourse. They enoyed an evening of sporting fun, whilst at the same time supporting a great cause; teamArchie.
teamArchie is a charity that offers awards and scholarships to inspirational young people seeking to advance their life opportunities but require additional or financial support from those who recognise their potential to succeed. The awards promote further training and qualifications to enhance their field of knowledge.
Archie’s family and friends set up the charity in his memory. He was a young man inspired by so many incredible mentors to make the most of his talent. His legacy aims to reflect his personality and help young people who don’t have the sort of opportunities that Archie had, to make the most of their talents through a programme of awards.
teamArchie awards and inspires excellence in a diverse range of areas of interest including sport, theatre, dance, music and academia.
Archie loved racing. And in his memory, this was the first student race day from teamArchie. The event was attended by students across the UK including Edinburgh, Cardiff, Exeter, Newcastle, Bristol, Oxford and Cambridge. They came together to show their support; and to soak up the beautiful sunshine and atmosphere at Newbury Racecourse.
A number of races took place throughout the evening, including the teamArchie handicap which the beautiful Flight of Fancy won. Throughout the event, students had access to a private teamArchie room overlooking the racecourse. There was food and drinks available. And when the races finished, an after party followed with a DJ and dance floor set up in the private room for all to enjoy – which Host sponsored.
The event was a great success in helping to raise awareness among students of the amazing difference that teamArchie is making and of course, the importance of embracing great sporting events whilst fundraising for a great cause.
