Home to 10,000 Full time students, Solent university is located in the maritime hub of Southampton City Centre. The university has over 160 years of history, with its origins in a private school of art founded in 1856. The university gained degree awarding powers in 2004 and was recently awarded TEF Silver for their excellent teaching. The university is midway through a major investment programme which will see a £100m investment is being made to the campus by 2020.
Solent University oversees the Warsash Maritime Academy, which is one of the world’s leading maritime education institutes. The university’s yachting team has won the student national competition eight times, as well as the Student Yachting World Cup in 2004 and 2010.
In 2022 the university was ranked 74th in the Guardian University Guide.
