The Host Environmental Pledge: Part 2

Being environmentally friendly is more important than ever before. If we want to live on a planet with clean water, fresh air and a diversity of plants and animals, we have to do everything we can to protect it.Host pledge to save environment

At Host, we’re doing our bit where we can to conserve energy and reduce waste; and we’re encouraging our students to do the same. This month, we’re launching, across all of our accommodations, the #HostEnvironmentalPledge campaign 2021.

As a result of the 2020 environmental campaign and everyone’s hard work, we’ll be donating a significant amount of money to last year’s nominated charities – BulliesOutPlanet Patrol and World Land Trust. These charities will all receive a donation from Host to make some positive changes to those in need.

So, following the success of last year’s campaign, we’re back for round two! It’s exactly the same concept and goal, the only difference is we’re supporting three new charities in the process.

What is the #HostEnvironmentalPledge?

The main aim of this campaign is to save energy. We want to reduce the amount of electric, gas and water that we consume at our sites over the year.

Through small actions such as turning off your lights when leaving a room, unplugging chargers when not in use, or taking shorter showers, we can help make a difference to protect the planet we live on.

In consuming less energy, we will contribute towards reducing the number of toxic fumes and greenhouse gas emissions being released into the environment. And in return for saving energy, we will also be donating money to charity.

Who are we supporting?

If we can reduce our overall consumption by 1% then we will donate £10,000 to charity. If we make a 2% reduction, we’ll donate £20,000, 3% is £30,000 and so on.

The three charities we’ve chosen to support and donate this money to are: BulliesOut, Planet Patrol and World Land Trust.

So, through this campaign, not only does the environment benefit – with less greenhouse gas emissions being released into the air, but so do these three fantastic charities.

How to get involved

save energy - pledge to save environment

Information about the campaign and each of the charities will be popping up at our accommodations and across our social media channels.

All of our residents will be invited via email to choose one of the three charities to support. In selecting a charity, students and staff will pledge to make small changes to their daily habits. For example, how they heat their room, power their appliances and use water.

If Host’s carbon footprint is reduced sufficiently, we will, on behalf of our students and staff, donate money to the charity they have chosen.

Follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for the latest campaign updates. Let us know what changes you’re making and which charity you’re pledging to make the changes for. You can also share any top tips with us – remember to use the hashtag #hostenvironmentalpledge.

Speak with your on-site Host team to find out more about recycling facilities at your accommodation.

Wasting less and recycling more saves energy and saves money. It’s also one of the fastest, easiest, and most effective ways we can all help to curb climate change.

Therefore, get involved! Go green! It’s so easy to get stuck in.

Do you want to be a green champion and help us on our quest to reduce energy? If you are passionate about the environment and want to get involved please email us at info@host-students.com – we’d love to hear from you!

Getting serious about the environment we live in.

To become more ‘environmentally friendly’, Host is launching the #HostEnvironmentalPledge campaign to encourage responsible behaviour and drive sustainability across our sites throughout the UK and Ireland.

It’s a simple campaign! For every percent we reduce our overall utilities (electric, water and gas) consumption by we donate to one of our nominated charities.
