Parents we understand that now’s a strange time as your kids head off to uni. – It can feel quite chaotic. But to support you. Here’s our top five things that parents should be thinking about before UCAS Results day – Just so you can find that transition a little easier.
This year, results day falls on Thursday 18th August. This is when you’ll know for certain where they’ll be studying and living at for the next three or so years. If you want some information about results day, then check out our guide.
Once they’ve confirmed their place at university, the next step is enrolment. The university will send an email around three weeks before the start date of the course. Enrolment will normally take place over a specific period, so make sure they don’t miss it. It will take approximately 15 minutes.
After enrolling, the university will provide the student ID card. This will generally need to be collected. Access to university facilities is then granted and the student loan can go through. It’s important that the university course details, and tuition fee are correct on the entitlement letter.

Before you head off for the first time, it’s a good idea to research the location where they’ll be staying. The more aware they aware about their area, the smoother their experience will be. When helping move in, knowing where to park will make everyone’s life easier too!

Top Tip: If you dial #06# you can find the mobile’s unique mobile registration (IMEI) number. When police recover stolen property, this is the first thing they’ll check. Get your child to register their mobiles IMEI and the serial numbers of any electronic equipment on Immobilise. This is a free UK property register, supported by police forces and used by them, insurers and the second-hand trade. If anything ever gets stolen, then register this on the immobilise website.
